Drinking on the Beach

Postby OtisCampbell » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:46 pm

Well, my 4th of July plans have been changed and I am no longer headed to the beach. I was totally looking forward to a big cooler filled with iced beer on the Gulf Coast (US). My new plans aren't so bad, but they don't involve the beach...or beer.

So if you are making to the ocean with something to sip on: I salute you!

I can understand the beach issue..but no beer? Are you being sent to Arabia or a Mormon Pioneer Days celebration? The rootbeer floats are nice though. They use Mug Rootbeer.

I get your point. Just not the time or place. There will damn-well be a make-up date for it, though. Oh, and quite a few dozen raw as well.

There may be something lost in translation here, because most US hipsters avoid the beach like the plague. Their fishbelly complexions burst into flame at the hint of sun, and the males are self-conscious about their reedy arms and legs. Ironically, PBR makes for a fine beach beer.

I rarely go to the trouble of bringing my own cooler anymore, since Clearwater has an abundance of beach bars that are actually quite reasonable, price-wise, and they handle my empties. Still gotta go under the pier for a toke, though.

I had planned to rent a place on the guld coast this fall and do some drinking. Those plans were waylaid by the need to replace my roof and a trip to Sandusky, OH for a friend's wedding next month. Just not enough funds left for a week long trip to the beach.

For Independence Day I'll be sitting at the lake drinking the King in a can and loads of bourbon.

We don't really celebrate Independance Day as an actual holiday over here, although I live near a biker bar and they tend to accept any excuse to party hard. I'll probably spend most of the day there, unless I have an interview. Goddamn I need to get a job... Dire straits, boys. Been reduced to bum-wine, and probably not for the last time either....

Last Christmas vacation, down in Tampa with the Wife's family. Little beach bar at Bradenton Beach.

Aren't hipsters all about being ironic? If that's so, wouldn't they want to ironically go to the beach, to ironically drink an ironic beer? Either way, my advice is to avoid the beach.

Ironically going to the beach would still lead to unironic sunburns and sand stuck in their SLR cameras.

I don't understand. In the UK they don't celebrate the anniversary of the American Colonies saying f' u to the crown? Well that's just sad.

By the way, I think the Queen is top drawer. Her driving an ambulance during the bombing of Britain and all that. And having to be in charge of her family. I sympathize about the family part.

I know right? I mean, we had to do alot of fighting for our own independance from the Celts and the Vikings and the Normands way back in the 10th century and earlier, but we don't get an Independance day. What kinda bullshit is that?

As for the queen, I have to agree. 'Lotta people don't like having a monarchy in this country. The main argument being "Our taxes pay for them to sit around doing fuck all!" Where, in all fairness, they do alot more than most of the people on benefits in this country, and our taxes pay for them to live too.
