Tradition means nothing, anymore

Postby Savage » Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:34 am

We have lived here 13 graduations (the high school is just behind our fence). This year, graduation 14, during full daylight, we heard what sounded like gunshots. Welp, it was the traditional fireworks display. Seriously, we thought it was an error, but apparently, the people in charge thought that it would be a good idea to set off the fireworks while the sun was still glaring in the sky. Looked like some smeary neon smoke, that was about it. I live in Rayturdville, it is true.

tradition is everything. I think we lost this generation, no morals, no values, cant drink, the ones that can have no sense class or respect for the taste of alcohol. these are the fuckers who are going to be taking care of us. Shit, im just an old soul who whishes he grew up in the 50s.

I was born in '54, and I credit above-ground nuclear testing during that decade for my enhanced awesomeness.

Stop, drop, and roll. Or was it, duck under your desk and kiss your ass goodbye?

I'm not convinced that setting off fireworks in the day is a break from tradition necessarily. More like a complete lack of common-sense!

Drinking beer at 11 am on a sunday morning after mass, now that's what I call a fine tradition.

Having champagne for breakfast when you're out for the weekend, that's tradition.

Asking your guests 'would you like a drink' and they know it will/should be alcoholic, now that's tradition. I mean, if somebody offers me to choose between tea and coffee (never ever happened here in Belgium) I would be mortally offended. I even heard my non-drunkard (although he does drink once in a while) neighbour asking a visitor, at ten am, 'fancy a beer?'. That's just what you do, as a civilized person.

Its even better when you get up early enough to make it to the 8 oclock mass, and pop that first beer at 930. Thats exactly how my sunday started yesterday.

If ever I heard of a Belgian not talking about beer almost constantly, i would be terrified for the rest of our fair planet....
