Thirsty in Pittsburgh

Postby Maker's please » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:03 pm

Heading to Pittsburgh for a couple weeks on business. Anybody got any good bars up there you can recommend. I'll be working on the northside and in the northwestern part of the state, so if anybody knows anything about any bars up around youngstown that could also be a bonus. Thanks

Check the bar map thread at the top for a couple of must hit spots in Pittsburgh. Hit Dee's Cafe on the Southside for some pool. Oh, also head to Penn Brewery on the Northside!!! http://www.pennbrew.com/

As a Pittsburgher I recommend:

1. On the northside, McFadden's, Bettis Grill, or Firewater. There are a ton of dive bars in Bellevue - Big Cat Pat's.

2. There are a strip of bars on the Southside (East Carson St.) - Mario's, Maragarita Mama's, Brusky's, etc.

3. Station Square: Hard Rock Cafe or Red Star.

Wherever you go, end your night with a Primanti sandwhich.

Pittsburgh Pub on 47th and Judah in San Francisco. You'll need not go elsewhere.

Thanks guys, definately hitting up the primanti sandwich. I hit up Bobby Magee's Irish Pub in Monroeville, not bad, not great. I'll head into the city later in the week. Definatley have to check out the brewery though, good call.

Only been to Pitt once, had a blast in the area called Squirrel Hill. Many great bars, many cheap Yuenglings.

If you make to Squirrel Hill, go straight to the Squirrel Hill Cafe. Also known as the Squirrel cage. One of the best bars in the burbs.

Bloomfield Bar & Tavern (or the BBT) on Liberty Ave in Little Italy. It's a Polish joint with Polish beer and Polka in the jukebox with shitty chairs.

Church Brewery! For crimony's sake.

That was my spot when I had to go out to Monroeville for my old job!
