Spotify, iTunes or just plain CD's

Postby BBoozer » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:34 am

I'm not sure,

Spotify will get me lots of music, but they are surely not exhaustive and I have not yet found a way to connect their ipad app to my stereo. iTunes, well, I just don't see the use of it (except, see the next sentence). Plain CD's, I can use iTunes to put them to my ipod and can just play them in my cars.

I'm considering buying sonos equipment, which will (I think, but *please* correct me if I'm wrong) solve the connection problem between spotified ipad and my stereo.

CD, Radio and youtube.
I don't have an MP3 player or anything like that. I don't even know what spotify is.

I've been using Sonos for a couple of years and in a couple of rooms. It works great. You just use the Sonos controller on your iDevice and it controls the Sonos hardware you have selected which streams music from online or a network drive (no computer needed). It's awesome!

I myself use Spotify to find new music and music listening at work. At home I have a networked drive with downloaded lossless/FLAC music. Althrough I do use a lot of Spotify at home as well.

A funny little detail - have no idea how or why it works - is that you can play different music on Spotify in different rooms with just one premium account. Achieving that without Sonos would mean two accounts. That's neat, although I have never really used the possibility since I'm the only one in the house that really appreciates music.

I've been planning on getting a vinyl record player for years and years but I've never gotten around to it. Have a few hundreds or records though, but no player hehe. I love those acrylic monsters, Clearaudio, Thorens and what not. Yummie. But the money always end up being spent on something wiser or more important.

Anyways, Sonos rox! Will be getting more stuff from them this summer and extend my audio system outdoors so that I can sit in the hot tub and rock as well.

Now you have convinced me Swede, to buy Sonos equipment. Now I just have to convince my dear wife. It is quite expensive, and I have good speakers (JM Lab) in my living room. Do you have any idea if 'external' speakers are compatible with the Sonos system, I would love to keep those speakers.

You already have an audio system so all you need is a Sonos Connect which costs approx €330. That's got digital coax out to your reciever/processor or analog output for your stereo amplifier.

If you don't have an network connection there you have your stereo you also need a Sonod Bridge which you connect to your router. It creates a "Sonos network" so that the Sonos Connect can use that without network connection. The Bridge costs €49.

I currently got a Sonos Connect in my home theater/hifi room and a Sonos Play:5 in my living room - although they have other names, they recently changed the names, same product though. The Play:5 is since to have handy, just has power connector and you can move it around, outdoors, indoors, shower :o) or where ever you need music - which is everywhere, all the time.

The new component I'm getting now is a Sonos Connect:Amp whcih has built in power amplifier which will power a pair of outdoor speakers.

The flexibility of the Sonos system is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.

I just got an iPhone and an Android phone. The iPad app is way cooler than the phone app :(

You might be able to pickup a cheap Connect on eBay?

That's pretty much exactly what I have. Works great. Spotify is for when you're lazy / just dicking around or want to listen to something random you don't have. FLAC is for when you want to have an aurgasm.

Although I haven't bothered with a network drive because I mostly listen on headphones. Good headphones are a lot cheaper than good speakers =/

And yeah my boss has a Sonos in his house and it's pretty freaking sweet.

my old stereo just died, and I've been wondering how to hook the turntable to the computer.

Help me, sensei!
Oh, that? Yeah, I did that, it's my fault. I'm sorry.
