Does such a thing exist?

Postby mediakill » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:32 am

A place online where you can sign up for free alcohol samples? Hate signing up for mailing lists but free alcohol is always nice. Anyone know of any companies that offer free samples by mail on-line Seen them for cigarettes and was wondering if theres equivalent for booze =)

if you're not living in America, then i'm not aware of one. if you are, the local package stores (at least the ones that don't protect the cashier with bullet-proof glass) sometimes offer free samplings of new products.
why is my moral compass always pointed east? that's the direction of the nearest liquor store.

Mediakill I dunno where you're from but at many liquor stores in BC there is usually some company rep giving out small free tasters. I wish Don Julio would do it soon! Some of the other provinces in Canada are like that too from what I've heard.

I don't think you're supposed to mail alcohol

The best people to request samples from are the marketing reps of the manufacurers themselves. Independent distributors typically won't give a shit or the time of day to answer your inquiries unless you have an account and plan on buying something. Upstarts make large quantities of "promotional materials" available for those who are willing and able to review them.

I have obtained many upon many a liter of liquor this way, some of it quite good but much of it a grab bag. When you review, you have to be prepared to take the pinnacle with the dregs, equally versed in both top and bottom shelf, and all those in between.

You need to something to sell you as a reviewer. A website that looks convincing can get you sample bottles if you ask for them right.
The last thing that anyone should ever do is feel ashamed of blacking out. You were trying to get drunk last night and, goddamnit, mission accomplished.

Have you been consulting our book The Modern Drunkard? It has a chapter on how to score free drinks.
