Brazilian sugar cane Rum

Postby cloud8 » Sat Mar 20, 2010 9:48 am

Stopped in the NH candy store and bought a bottle of Beleza de Minas Gold Cachaca, Brazilian "Rum." 14$ and 86 proof for the fifth, not bad.

It's distilled from sugar cane rather than molasses, and it sure as hell isn't Rum. A fragrance of cucumber and inner tube, a taste between rotten cabbage and agave. It's potent all right, but it needs abundant lemon and sugar as the recipe for a caipirnha on the back label recommends.

Maybe Cachaca is an "acquired taste."

You can have the rest of the bottle.

Fortunately I bought a fifth of Myers's for the same price. Sure you don't want some of that?

Yes, but you like that Hazi Palinka stuff :)

Thinking about it, this Beliza Cachaca is a novelty from Nowhere, Brazil, and I bet Beliza:the good stuff::cheap Scotch:a decent single malt.

Wouldn't want it to go to waste... you know rum goes bad in 24 hours after you open the bottle, so you have to finish it
