The Taste of Freedom

Postby Oggar » Sat Jun 27, 2009 4:13 am

After my recent and first stay in detox I can give you some helpful hints to avoid the ride. Firstly if you fall down in some bushes across the street from the front door of the police station and have difficulty extricating yourself from said bushes do not stay there. Second if you have a cell phone it would be helpful to carry it with you so as to have numbers to scroll through when the cops ask you if you might know anyone undrunk who could come and get you. Third do not immediately answer No to the do you know anyone undrunk question when it is asked of you at 4:30am on a Wednesday morning. Four although it is important to be co-operative with law enforcement to avoid jail when they say they should start getting you ready for Detox by getting your belt, keys, shoes, ect., do not hand the officers your pants while you are still standing on the sidewalk. After my 36hrs in the drunk tank I do know what freedom tastes like however. Freedom tastes like booze.

A great thing to keep in mind.

Bless you oggar. Freedom and booze are yin and yang.

Until you forget how to unlock the bathroom door.
Getting drunk was good. I decided that I would always like getting drunk. It took away the obvious and maybe if you could get away from the obvious often enough, you wouldn't become obvious yourself - Bukowski

WTH did they hold you for 36 hrs? I got thrown in to the drunk tank couple of years ago on St.Patrick's day (yeah, I deserved it that day). But they let me go after about 8 or so hrs, didn't even charge me officially.

Only close call with police for me was when my arc of pukiness missed a parked police car buy few inches due to my awesome do-not-puke-there-reflexes. Police had just been sorting out some drunken fight not that far away and dragging two dudes towards the car. As I saw that they had their hands full but stared at me with not so friendly look I gave them thumb up and staggered away.

Minnesota has some bullshit laws, we do not have a drunk tank we have detox. It's a medical hold and they can keep you up to 72hrs- basically like being thrown into a psych ward. On the plus side it is not technically illegal to break out although they will have you shoes, wallet, keys and belt (you can reclaim them later). But, if you happen to damage anything on your escape you will of course be charged since its government property and all. I had planned an escape, getaway driver was at the ready, but then they told me they were probably going to let me out in the morning and I decided not to risk it.

I just don't get that in the Land of Freedom you can get incarcerated just for being drunk. Here in Belgium, you literarly have to kill somebody while being drunk.

I mean, I know people who did just wat you described in your OP, and the police smiled and gave them a ride home. As said many times before, we'll grant you drunkard's asylumn if you need.

There's not much to get to get. This isn't the land of freedom.

But I like it here.

Onetime I got tanked for directing traffic while I was drunk as hell.
I bet it would be otherwise nothing to remember, but I was trying to redirect a police car and got pissed because they were not going to where I was trying to signal them..
I got ticket for it and all.
As you can guess the officer was laughing when he handed my ticket in the morning... 85 Effing Euros.
