Mayan Mead

Postby Joe_Twelvepack » Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:51 am

Once again. I have got my hands on a bottle of Xtabentun. Honey liquor of old Mexico, te amo, te adoro, te ruego.

I can't honestly remember if I've ever had any kind of mead. Maybe once in England(?), but that would've been 25-30 years ago.

What's the ABV for that Xtabentun, Joe?

Mead is ok. I polished off a bottle of English mead recently, 18%. It went down easy enough, you got to like the taste of honey though.

I tried to make mead, but it tasted like shit. I have therefore decided to 'age' it in the back of a cupboard for when I get really desperate

Best to blend it with some malt and dry-hop it. Not my best home-brew as I remember it, but not bad at all.

After a little bit of practice, it's easy to make delicious mead that fits your own tastes - and is sure to harvest some applause from your friends.
Making stuff yourself is also coincidently a great way of sticking it to the man.

Love mead. There's not much available here though, but we do have a good "mead liquor".

Yeah, this is liquor, not actual mead, but it gets called that because it is honey based.

I made proper mead, think I used shitty yeast though, that's all it tasted of, like beer that had been left in a glass for a few days, then reduced down in a pan with some marmite

I thought I drank mead the other day but it was actually "honey liquer" that was nonetheless over 40% ABV. It came from Poland. I threw the bottle out and don't remember what it was called.

had some homemade last night. really good, though light at 12% abv. went well with the ginger cake.
