Almost burned the house down II

Postby JimLahey » Thu Jan 19, 2012 2:13 am

Well, I damn near did it again.
Two days ago I heat up a delicious meal and decide "Hell, this will take forever, I'll just have some beer and whiskey and play Call of Duty 4 while it's getting ready!" Famous last words.
When I forget things, there is usually some sort of alarm going off in the back of my head eventually like "SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THAT FOOD". This time, there was none of that, my only reminder was the horrible smell of smoke.
I run downstairs and I can barely see through the smoke. Some minor smoke damage in the kitchen but no fire, but now the new house I moved into smells like a crematorium. Anyone know of a good way to get rid of that disgusting smell of smoke? It's been two days and I can still smell it everywhere, my room mate is PISSED! I guess this is a way to break the new house in, get drunk and nearly burn it down. Don't mind the bit of damage I have to pay for, but how the flying fuck do I get rid of this perpetual smokiness? This whiskey is helping, but every morning I'm reminded of why firefighters exist, for assholes like me.

Cook some delisious meats with fresh garlic and onions. It will smell like paradise. Also cook with strong smelling chilies and herbs. A shit-ton of candles will get the smell out, eventually. I suggest the delicious meats idea becuase, A) IT will smell amazing, B) you get to eat the delicious meats and if you cook it for your roommate, he/she will be happy and 3) I'm drunk, but it sounds right in my head at the moment.

Cheers you glorious bastard!

Ironically, what I burned to a black nightmarish crisp was delicious meat with garlic and onions, but I will try that Sal. I will cook up a storm tomorrow in what I turned into a gas chamber. Candles, good tip there... It's just such a distinctive gross smell! There is something about good food being burnt that smells extra awful. It's in all the clothes, hahaha, dear god, I AM Jim Lahey.

my flatmate did the same thing after coming home from the pub, but with a ready meal, so the flat has smelled of dog meat for the last few days, at least I get a few rounds out of it. Best bet is to make jam, or bake a cake I think, because it's a different sort of smell, but still one that gets everywhere

Put some dryer sheets in your AC/Heat vents and change your furnace filter.

I know this well be controversial here- but try not to cook drunk. Eat something ready to eat or just drink more. Drunks die from accidents before any other cause.

You can make that without cooking; just add some sour cream and a tasty cruchy chip or cracker.

Yeah, every since I realized that the smoke detector wasn't meant to be a pizza timer I have tried to stick with anything I can put on a Ritz cracker when I'm overly fucked up.

Try to limit drunken cooking to the microwave and stove top. Nothing that you leave in the oven is a good idea when drunk.

Delicious, nutricious, and filling. And peanut butter is non-regurgitable.
